You hear me when I call.
You are my morning song.
Though darkness fills the night.
It cannot hide the Light.
Whom shall I fear?
You crush the enemy,
You are my sword and shield,
Though troubles linger still.
Whom shall I fear?
I know Who goes before me.
I know Who stands behind.
The God of angel armies,
Is always by my side.
The One Who reigns forever,
He is a friend of mine.
The God of angel armies,
Is always by my side.
So many times we sing songs of Your love and power, then walk away and forget what we believed so vehemently just moments before. Psalm 22:3 tells us You love to sit and listen and respond to our praises. Then why, I ask myself, is it so easy for us to walk away and forget? You say the answer is simple: we stop praising, not only with our voices, but with our hearts.
As long as we hear what we are singing, chanting, meditating on, we are fine. Then we stop listening. But if we would simply keep our eyes focused and ears tuned, we would see and hear all of creation still singing Your praises; in a blossoming flower, a bird's song, the wind whispering through the trees, the clouds forming and reforming, the ocean waves crashing against the shore, the buzzing of bees and I could go on and on!
Lord, help us remember each morning as we wake to really open our eyes, tune our ears, see and hear Your praises all around us and then open our throats and join in the song! You are worthy of our praises!
You don't leave us because we stop praising, but in our forgetfulness, we walk a little bit away from You; just enough to make it harder to recognize Your voice over the screams of the world around us. So help us remember to sing Your praises even if we can only do so in spirit! In Jesus' name, Amen.
