Embracing the beauty and joy of the snow

My children played in the snow today. I remember back when I was a child, snow was exciting, but I could only handle it for about 10 minutes before I was ready to come back indoors. Today in my older age, I can only handle the cold white craze for about 10 seconds or less. Nonetheless, my children have been outside in this stuff playing all day. I am convinced it takes the joyous heart of a child to be able to embrace the beauty and joy of the snow. I thank God for my dear sister, Rori. She has been with them the entire time. They would have had to miss this winter wonderland had I had anything to do with it.

My grandma passed away. It has been a very sad and long weekend. As adults, it is difficult to move forward after such a life event as this, and as my dear aunt Cyndi stated, “I don’t know how people get through this without God.” What truth is found in that statement! The reality of the situation is this: without God, there is no hope beyond the grave. Praise God that He has given us His One and Only Son to bring hope back into our lives! Even with the wisdom of God in our hearts, it is a difficult time and also difficult to understand.

Snow falls and covers the earth with glistening splendor. As the beauty of white snow covers the grief that nature feels for the coming of spring, making it something lovely to behold, so does the hope of Jesus Christ and His loving grace cover our grieving hearts as we await His return. Snow prepares nature for the coming splendor of spring. His loving mercy prepares our hearts for the splendor of His coming.

As children find joy in the white snow that has fallen, may we be as children at play and find joy in His mercy and grace that have fallen on our hearts this weekend. God, thank You for the HOPE of Your Son, Jesus Christ! We praise You for the loving grace You pour out upon us during this difficult time. Give us faith like a child to find joy in the beauty of Your merciful love, and may we be an example to this world as we prepare for Your coming!
